We try to work out at the gym every day and I make this smoothie the minute we get back home. We bought a Vitamix several years ago, and it gets a daily workout itself with this recipe. Also, I’m not into overly sweet smoothies, so the lemon and lime really help to make it taste refreshing. I add the collagen and flax because we’re getting older, and I think every little bit helps. Don’t feel obligated if that isn’t your thing. It doesn’t change the taste at all though, and it makes me feel like we’re doing something good for ourselves. We tried adding greens powders, but they made the smoothies taste and look like dirt. If you can handle that, go you. This recipe makes two smoothies.
Ingredients:
- One banana
- 1/2 cup of vanilla blended nonfat Greek yogurt (we like Chobani)
- 1/2 orange (Calla Calla are my favorite)
- 1/2 lime
- 1/2 lemon
- 5-6 strawberries
- 1 – 1 1/2 cups of ice
- (Optional) Two scoops of collagen peptides (we use Vital Proteins)
- (Optional) Two tablespoons of ground flax seeds
Add all of the ingredients to the blender and blend (our Vitamix actually has a button for smoothies that blends for 50 seconds). Also, because the Vitamix is such a power house, I don’t do much to the fruit except remove the citrus peels and de-stem the strawberries.
Tip: Sometimes, I have to freeze the bananas and strawberries so as not to waste them. If I freeze any fruit, I cut it into small pieces before freezing to help with blending when I use the frozen fruit.
I hope you enjoy this smoothie as much as we do. After a tough workout, I swear it brings me back to life!
Best,
Lisa
